Junior Cup
1st Apr 2025
The boys’ football team ventured to the Ballymena Showgrounds today to take part in the annual Junior Cup.
Their morning started with a 0-0 draw against Groggan. The boys put on a real defensive masterclass and the clean sheet was secured thanks to a last ditch challenge from Matthew and a number of top class saves from Sky. Next up the boys faced a very skilful Clough side who managed to penetrate through our backline twice to score two good goals.
In the following game against Harryville the boys dominated the play from early on. The midfield of Jay and Nathaniel pressed and harried the Harryville midfield, winning the ball back in the process; Nathaniel then made a real captain’s contribution by delivering in a delightful cross which the defender put into his own net. Jack, Mihaita, John and Lewis fought for every loose ball to ensure that we came away with a 1-0 win.
The following game saw another excellent high energy performance from the boys who were unfortunate to only come away with one point and a 0-0 draw. Ronan led the press in the midfield and didn’t let Kirkinriola have a moment on the ball. Towards the end of the game Lewis and Matthew were unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet.
The last game of the day saw our team come up against a very strong Kells & Connor team. It was an encouraging start with Matthew cynically fouled while racing through on goal; the resultant free kick from Nathaniel sailed just narrowly wide. After that, momentum swung in the direction of Kells & Connor who showed their class and scored three well-worked goals with no reply.
The boys had a great time and represented the school excellently. Thank you to Mr Beattie from Moorfields PS for organising the tournament.
